The Town of Barrington, Rhode Island engaged me as a consultant to work with the community to explore the possibility of establishing a committee focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion. To that end, I developed a program to guide 36 town stakeholders through a four-month exploratory process to discover if and how the town government might create such a committee. The process included a community event with historian and antiracism scholar Dr. Ibram X. Kendi. Participant feedback reflected that the program has created a lasting positive impact on the community. As a result of the engagement, a formal diversity, equity, and inclusion committee was created in Barrington and is currently active and addressing community issues and concerns.
